La Fruta Park currently provides the outdoor enthusiast with a large outdoor grill for cookouts, plenty of picnic tables, primitive camping, RV site rentals, hiking trails, paddling and kayak rentals, birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and multiple fishing points along the Nueces River.

Kayak Trip

Paddling - The La Fruta Park Paddling Trail stretches along the Nueces River starting at La Fruta Park, and ending at the San Patricio De Hibernia Park. Don't forget to pack a lunch and some sunscreen, because this 17 mile paddling trip takes around 5 hours on average. You can bring your own canoe or kayak, or rent one from La Fruta Park. Life jackets and paddles are provided with the kayaks upon rental. For pricing please view the prices section.

Fishing Area

Picnics and Barbecues - Located in the center of the park, La Fruta Park's picnic area has a large barbecue pit and several picnic tables. Bring supplies and pick a table, or rent the entire picnic area for a special occasion such as a birthday party or a reunion.

Fishing - La Fruta Park has several different areas along the Nueces River, and the Tackle Box Bait Shop is conveniently right down the road. Also, with its small fishing pier, La Fruta Park's Wildlife Pond is the perfect place for the younger children to learn how to fish. It's stocked full of all different types of fish from Catfish, Tilapia, Bass, Carp, Perch, Mullet, and many others.

Walking Trails - Exercise or explore on the miles of La Fruta Park walking trails that are kept maintained by Park Staff. Learn more about La Fruta Park by stopping at one of our many information kiosks along the trails.

Primitive Camping - Bring a tent and camp overnight in one of our designated camping areas. With a restroom, picnic tables, plenty of fishing spots along the Nueces River, and enough walking trails to get lost in, La Fruta Park is a great place to bring the family on a getaway camping trip. La Fruta Park is closed to daily visitors after the regular business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. Campfires are allowed in pits only. No ground fires.

Trail Riders Horseback Riding - La Fruta Park welcomes you to bring your horses and ride the many trails that cover our 100 acre stretch of land along the Nueces River. A creek runs down the center of the park, and the trails are perfect for horseback riding. Horse trailer parking is marked with a sign, and designated at the front of the park.
